La Macarena

The historical context of La Macarena is characterized by being a scenario of post-conflict due to the invasion and violence by the FARC during the 80s. The illegal land grabbing by this organization caused great damage to the local economy during that time since access and tourism to this region were limited due to insecurity.

Currently, the community in this place invests in tourism development as an agent of change, encouraging a sense of belonging and environmental care with the purpose of causing a social and cultural impact.

Caño Cristales, also known as "The River of Five Colors," is a natural gem in Colombia due to its unique colors, which belong to a species of freshwater aquatic plant called Macarenia Clavigera or also known as the Water Nymph. It grows attached to the rocks of the riverbed, and its flowers, which give life to the river, are vibrant colors, mainly red, pink, magenta, purple, and yellow, although in recent years, other associated colors have been discovered, which vary according to the intensity of sunlight and the time of year.
